About
This started, more or less literally, on a napkin.
This has happened more than a hundred times over thirteen years, and it’s always more or less the same. Someone sits across a table and sketches a rough idea on the back of a napkin while explaining something a little too ambitious to say out loud with a straight face.
What comes after that is the actual work: turning it into something that can be built, launched, and trusted. Sometimes that’s a business. Sometimes it’s a digital product, a physical device, a clever piece of packaging, or a connected system with more moving parts than anyone in that first meeting realized. The shape changes every time. The starting point never does.
Napkin Engineering Group is built around that pattern. Take the napkin seriously, and finish it properly.
Not a hobby project.
It’s built on thirteen years of doing exactly this kind of work, most of it at Director and Partner level.
At MGS Design & Development (formerly Technolution), Kasper led cross-functional development projects for Pharma and MedTech clients including Novo Nordisk, Coloplast, LEO Pharma, Ascendis Pharma, ALK, Xellia, and Amgen. The work spanned product strategy, R&D, market insight, clinical input, industrial design, mechanical engineering, manufacturing, and a fair amount of regulatory and commercial work too, often across borders.
He also helped grow that company from 12 people to more than 100, with revenue up tenfold over the same stretch, while co-leading its shift toward a flatter, more autonomous way of working. Scaling something from a small team into a real organization isn’t new territory here.
Outside client work, Kasper has mentored startups on product-market fit and go-to-market strategy as an advisory board member for Innovation Fund Denmark and the Danish Design Center, and taught Strategic Design Thinking and Behavioral Design as an external lecturer at DTU and SDU. He’s spoken at UX Live London, UX Camp CPH, and BrainsBusiness, and picked up six international design awards and a handful of patents along the way.
And starting something from scratch isn’t new either. Since 2021, Kasper has also run Napkin Creatives, a small consultancy helping SMEs and early-stage ventures with branding, market strategy, and innovation alignment. Napkin Engineering Group is the same instinct, pointed at a sharper, more technical brief.

No bench sitting around waiting for work.
Napkin Engineering Group is led by Kasper Friis, backed by a network of senior specialists built up over thirteen years and more than a hundred client projects.
Instead of a bench, there are relationships: engineers, designers, regulatory specialists, and manufacturing experts who’ve worked together for years and know how to move as a team the moment a project needs them. Every engagement gets exactly the combination of expertise it actually calls for, and nothing gets carried once the work is done.
In practice, that means senior-level thinking on every project, without the overhead of a big agency and without you paying for capacity you don’t need.
Scandinavian by discipline.
We design the way we were trained to: remove what doesn’t need to be there. Not because minimalism happens to be fashionable right now, but because in a device, every unnecessary part is a place something can go wrong. And in a consumer or industrial product, every unnecessary part is just a place cost hides.
