The Concept Decision Sprint

Four weeks. One decision paper.

The three concepts actually worth your money.

The common issue:
You have somewhere between eight and forty product concepts. A steering committee that can’t agree. And a budget that will only survive one wrong bet.

The Concept Decision Sprint runs your entire concept portfolio through the Napkin Protocol, Napkin Dump to Napkin to Line, in four weeks, with engineers and designers in the room from day one. Not analysts. People who can tell you whether users can and will actually use the product and whether the mechanism survives contact with a mold.

01 / What you get

Four deliverables, not just a slide deck.

A Decision Paper

A decision paper shortlisting 2–3 concepts, each with technical feasibility evidence, an early usability read, manufacturability notes, and rough cost and timeline estimates.

Evidence Presentation

A steering-committee-ready presentation of the evidence, so the decision runs on data, not on whoever argues loudest.

Engineering prototypes

You will get all ideas generated, the refined concept drawings, and the prototypes and CAD-files made to explore and support the decision.

Kill Criteria

Pre-agreed kill criteria your organization keeps forever.

The honest clause

If The Wipe shows that none of your current concepts should proceed, we tell you in week two, and you pay 40%. We’d rather kill your project cheaply than build it expensively.

02 / How the four weeks break down

A proven process to explore, define, test and make concept decisions.

One week per step of the Napkin Protocol →

Week 1 / 15–40 concepts

Napkin Dump

Everything on the table, unfiltered. Broad concept generation across your organization, engineers, sales, clinicians, users, whoever has a stake in the outcome. Volume and honesty first.

Week 2 / 5–8 concepts

The Wipe

Pre-agreed criteria, technical realism, regulatory complexity, market size, strategic fit, cut the list down. This is the week you’d pay 40% and stop, if nothing survives it.

Week 3 / 2–3 concepts

Fold Test

Rapid pre-validation on the survivors: refined concept drawings, engineering prototypes, CAD, expert interviews, feasibility checks, and an early usability read.

Week 4 / 1 decision

Napkin to Line

Everything synthesized into the decision paper and the steering-committee evidence presentation, with kill criteria your organization keeps for the next decision too.

We’ve run this process on a combination product. We went from market idea to feasible and pre-vaildated concepts in 5 weeks. In the client’s own words that would have normally taken them 6 months. See more cases →
